It is about time that Telecom companies start to deliver new services as stated by Gartner. Technology should not be at a standstill. There should be transformations to existing technological capabilities to deliver new services to consumers, and meet their demands. There are new digital services now in place, and voice technology is on the decline. Telecom companies need to speed up their efforts and come up with new applications and infrastructure to support these digital services.
Since voice revenues is declining very fast, carriers will have to come out with a wider range of high-tech service. It is expected that 20 of the largest carriers will be able to provide such new services by 2012. The market will become much more competitive, so Telecom carriers can no longer be just plain and simple providers of bandwidth. They must have the capability to compete with manufacturers of hardware, as well as with internet firms of varying sizes. The main challenge is in the intensive way in which IT will be used to deliver services by providers of mobile broadband communications services. The environment will also become highly competitive, as new opportunities for new digital services evolve.
Mobile operators also have a big challenge ahead of them. Preparations must be made for next mobile technologies, and fourth-generation (4G) technologies. Current pricing of mobile data services is quite high for consumers. By 2012, it is hoped that
The guys over at NullPlay have come up with a great trick to get your boiler repaired on the cheap, and while they might think it’s “slightly dodgy” we have no compunctions at all in recommending it…anything the consumer can do to get one up on companies who are, at the end of the day, trying to take as much cash as possible from you is all right by us!
The basic idea is that if you’re unlucky enough to have a problem with your boiler or central heating system you get a quote from one or more plumbers for the job and, if the estimates are creeping in to the £100+ region you just sign up for heating breakdown insurance with one of the many providers such as Homeserve or British Gas Homecare. Most of these offer cheap or free parts and labour on repairs, and, while they’ll probably have a condition in their contract that allows them to pull out of the deal if your boiler is on it’s last legs, minor repairs may well get carried out for free. It’s essentially an insurance type business model where people tend to stick with their original choice, so they know it may be worth a few parts and hours to keep your business longer term!
Here’s the inspiration for this little consumer weapon: Boiler Service Centre’s article on what to look out for when selecting central heating breakdown cover.
