The Personality of a Typical Pisces Baby

Posted by admin on in Great Lifestyle Tips

Your Pisces Baby..

February 19 - March 20

Your baby will have the most winning ways of all babies, and
will dazzle you with the sweetest of smiles. She will dislike
order and routine and will have an amazing imagination. Some
Pisces children live in a world of make believe with imaginary
people to talk to, and they believe in magic, fairies and myths
- don’t ever tell them that Santa Claus does not exist, it will
be traumatic! Young Pisceans can have a very active sixth sense.
Your child may enjoy the company of adults more than that of
other children. Pisces children rarely lose their temper,
instead they will happily continue on their own sweet way.

Pisces children tend to avoid the limelight and do not seek to
lead. Parents should not push their child into such positions.
Their passive, non-aggressive natures mean that Pisces children
can often be the victims of bullying. You will need to watch for
this and to teach your child a strategy for dealing with such
situations.

Young Pisceans seek attachments to people and animals rather
than places and things. They need to be taught to believe in
themselves to prevent them from becoming too clinging. Pisceans
absorb all sorts of information like sponges (you may have a
future Mastermind!) and need to be taught to distinguish between
reality and fantasy.

Two Pisces children in the same family will get on very well
together, often building an imaginary world. A Piscean parent
with a Pisces child will also have an excellent relationship.

Know Your Course: Greens

Posted by admin on May 21, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

Golfers are very picky of the golf course where they want play.
They don’t like playing in areas where the greens were just
punched. That is why keepers of the greens implement a lot of
methods to make sure expert care is given and golfers play golf
without being annoyed.

There are a lot of problems that resemble a nightmare if no
perfect trouble shooting tips are used. One aspect that is very
important in keeping a good greens is the drainage. Although,
this is often overlooked, it is a vital part in keeping the
green especially during rainy seasons.

A real golf course will eat up from $65,000 or more for just a
single green. A base layer to maintain the shape is required for
a green. The drainage should be made up of crushed stones, a
layer of sand, PVC pipes, and at least 13 to 14 inches of
cheaper sand with peat for the root zone layer. The sprinklers
should be available including bunkers. A more expensive part,
which is the sod, is needed also for the surrounding area.

The labor needed in providing maintenance for the green is not
for golf course owners who do not like cutting the grass more
than once a week. The hard part of the work is preventing turf
grass problems and being vigilant on how to maintain it as it
should be. Cutting of the grass should be made every two to
three days or everyday if there are golfers who want to play on
the green everyday. There is also other work that demands more
time and cost such as aeration, fertilization, putting
herbicides, top dressing, putting fungicides and/or pesticides.
Below is a list of some methods and time frame needed in taking
care of the golf course greens.

Care for Greens Activity and Scheduling Irrigation: 1 - 3 days
interval Mowing: 1 - 3 days interval Top dressing: 3 to 6 times
a year Aeration: Once a year Pesticide: Only when it’s needed
Herbicide: Only when it’s needed Fungicide: Once a month
Fertilization: Once a month

The types of grass that can be used are either the creeping
bentgrass or Bermuda grass. Bentgrass is considered by gold
course owners in areas where the climate is moderate to cool
while Bermuda is the type of turf recommended in tropical or
sunny temperatures. Bentgrass is easier to grow and provides a
greenskeeper income. Using Bermuda in hot climates make it more
costly. The techniques used in maintaining the two kinds of
grass are the same, the only difference is that it would be
difficult to use Bentgrass in places that are tropical since it
is hard to keep it moist. Only 22% of American golf course
owners use Bermuda while 78% prefer Bentgrass. Here are the list
of places and the turf type they use according to a survey made
by GCSAA.

US State: Bentgrass/Bermuda grass

Alabama: 19/81 Arizona: 59/41 Arkansas: 60/40 California: 86/14
Florida: 2/98 Georgia: 49/51 Louisiana: 2/98 Mississippi: 9/90
Nevada: 93/7 Oklahoma: 90/10 North Carolina: 67/33 South
Carolina: 14/86 Tennessee: 65/35 Texas: 50/50

Hawaiian owners are using one hundred per cent Bermuda grass
while all the other US states are using a hundred per cent
bentgrass. Southeast Texas is using Bermuda while Bent is being
used in Northwest Texas.

A standard mower, preferably the rotary types, are needed since
the greens should be rolled and cut to a height of 4/16 inches.
Others are still considering synthetic grass than bentgrass for
the golf course. Although synthetic ones can be cheaper, some
golfers may not like the idea. Here are the pluses and minuses
of each type of grass:

Type of Greens: Pros vs. Cons

Real bent grass

1. Maintenance can be a hobby but skills and training are needed
2. More pleasing and attractive but can be time consuming 3.
Hole locations can be changed but costly grass mowers are needed
4. Grows fast and cheaper than seeds but irrigation is needed

Fake grass 1. Maintenance is not needed but concrete holes are
permanent 2. May look real during playing but can be discovered
fake by expert golfers 3. Can take any weather condition but a
bit more expensive than real bent grass seeds 4. Worry free
maintenance but requires labor fees for installation

How To Easily Add Interlining To Your Roman Shades and Pleated Drapery - Step-by-step

Posted by admin on May 12, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

Everyone knows that adding interlining to your window treatments
will help insulate your windows… keeping the hot air out in
the summer and the cool air out in the winter. Did you also know
that adding interlining to your window treatments… especially
silk draperies… gives the fabric a lush, luxurious and
expensive look?

In fact, adding interlining to your window treatments is the one
thing you can do to make your window treatments stand apart from
everyone elses. Hardly anyone takes the extra effort to simply
insert a layer of interlining into their drapes or roman shades.
Mainly, because they just don’t know how, can’t find info on
it… and settles for simple lined drapes.

Well, I can tell you that interlining is the best way to making
your window treatments professional… and if you run a
workroom, then this information is critical to your success.

Now, one more thing before we get started… “What is
interlining?” Interlining is like a thin cotton batting. You can
find interlining or batting at your fabric store. It’s designed
to add fluffiness to quilts and insulation and fullness to
window treatments.

So, you may be asking in anticipation… How do I add
interlining to MY drapes?!

Well, I’m going to tell you… step-by-step… here we go:

1. Cut your interlining to the cut length of your face fabric.
So, if you need to cut your fabric to 60″ in length, then cut
your interlining to 60″.

2. Cut your interlining to the cut width of your face fabric.
So, for example, if your fabric needs to be 100″ total in width,
then so does your interlining.

Now, obviously there will be times when you need to piece your
interlining to achieve the cut width. To piece your interlinig
you lay the 2 panels side-by-side, edge to edge. Do not overlap
the edges. Then whip stitch the 2 panels together. The 2 pieces
should lay flat with no overlap.

3. Trim off the bottom edge of the interlining the size of the
bottom hem. So, for example, if your roman shade or drapery has
a 3″ double hem… that would be 6″ total… then trim 6″ off of
the bottom edge of the interlining.

4. Fold up your double hem on your face fabric and press.

5. Slide the interlining down into the folded hem, aligning the
side edges of the interlining and fabric. The interlining will
be laying flat and smooth within the bottom hem.

6. Pin the interlining to the face fabric in several places to
keep it from sliding.

7. If you are sewing pleated drapes or rod pocket drapes then
you are going to want to trim off some of the top edge of the
interlining. You want it so that when you fold down the top edge
of your face fabric, the interlining lies flat inside the fold,
but not folded itself. For example, if you plan on folding down
the top part of your window treatment 6″, then trim off 6″ from
the top edge of the interlining.

8. You are now ready to finish sewing your window treatment as
instructed. Simply treat this pinned fabric/interlining panel as
one piece… this will be your fabric in your instructions.

Take your time. Find a large flat space to work on. Smooth and
pin as you align your interlining to your fabric. The key is to
have a smooth flat piece of interlining sandwiched between your
fabric and lining.

Adding interlining does take some time and patience, especially
when working with large widths of fabric. But the results are
well worth the effort spent.

You’ll love sitting back and admiring your gorgeous, thick,
professional window treatments… that would literally cost you
a fortune to have made by someone else.

The Use Of Modern Embroidery Machines

Posted by admin on May 7, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

In the past embroidery, or hand stitching, was identified by
long, tedious hours spent bent over canvases while crafting
breathtaking and intricate designs. While the embroidery of
today is still breathtaking and intricate, the use of machines
in embroidery has helped speed up the creative process and has
also allowed people who never thought they could embroider at
all embroider like the pros.

The history of embroidering with machines started with the
invention of the sewing machine and continues today into this
high-tech world of computers and software programs.

In the beginning, machines did little to help create embroidery
designs but aided in the speed of creating them on canvas. The
deigns were still pretty much planned, drawn and approached as
they would have been if they were going to be hand stitched. The
sewing machine only helped out in the stitching process. The
colors of thread were changed manually and the designs
themselves were stitched with a great deal of hands-on operation
from the embroiderer.

With the introduction of the Cam, though, embroidery with
machines grew by leaps and bounds. The Cam allowed more stitches
than the conventional sewing machine could produce on its own
and even included some embroidery stitches into its functions.
But still embroidery required a lot of skill and hands-on
applications to create even the simplest designs.

The birth of a specialized sewing machine and design cards
changed all of that forever. These machines can be used by
anybody who wants to embroider even if they have no skill at
all. All you have to do is insert an imprinted design card into
the sewing machine and it does all of the work automatically.
All you have to do is change the colors of thread.

Computers have also revolutionalized the world of embroidery. In
fact, the biggest change experienced in machine embroidery has
been the result of the invention of computers and specialized
embroidery software. Digital software now allows embroiderers to
design their own patterns to be completed by embroider machines.
And these machines are unbelievable when it comes to creating
the finest embroidered patterns. Some even make elegant lace.

With embroidery being this easy for everyone to master no matter
what their skill level, it is no wonder that embroidery has
become increasingly popular over the past few years. In fact,
many people who never believed that they could create anything
as beautiful and intricate as embroidery have given it a shot
and are hooked. From baseball caps and T-shirts to samplers and
wall coverings, embroidered designs have never been easier to
accomplish, and we owe it all to the embroidery machine.

It’s Not Your Father’s Climbing Frame!

Posted by admin on April 22, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

When I was growing up, the metal jungle gym in our backyard made
ours the most popular play spot in the neighbourhood. Built of
tubular steel in bright orange and yellow, it was a honeycombed
hexagon that provided days of climbing, swinging and acrobatic
fun. These days, the jungle gym is called a climbing frame,
and it may be made of wood, metal or plastic, but the fun factor
remains the same. If you have young children, a climbing frame
in the back yard or garden can offer hours upon hours of fun
recreation and activity.

Climbing frames come in a wide variety of sizes and
configurations, and most are customizable with add-ons and
accessories. You can start with a simple ladder type climbing
frame and add accessories like platforms, ladders, rope
climbers, tents, rope bridges and more. One easy way to classify
climbing frames is by materials used.

Wooden climbing frames are generally more expensive than
either plastic or metal framed climbers. Made of
pressure-treated lumber, they use galvanized screws for
fastening and often include enclosures, platforms and rope
climbing ladders. Wooden climbing frames can last a lifetime if
properly cared for, and be used by generation after generation
of children. Popular additions to wooden climbing frames are
canopies, swings, rope climbers and platforms.

Perhaps you recall the swing sets of your childhood - tubular
metal in bright colors with swings and a slide, and perhaps a
glider. Todays metal climbing frames are the next generation. The product
of increased safety awareness and health studies, they’re
designed with fun AND safety in mind. They often include
horizontal ladders for climbing and swinging, slides, and bars
for more intricate feats of balance and swinging. They’re the
closest to the old monkey bars and jungle gyms that we all grew
up with.

Made popular by such manufacturers as Playskool and Little
Tikes, plastic climbing frames are made of high impact, sturdy
plastic that can withstand weather and rugged use. Bright
colors, rounded corners and clever designs make plastic climbing
frames the perfect choice for toddlers and small children.
Generally closer to the ground, it often features holes and
tunnels for crawling and climbing, broad-based support for
safety and slides with rounded rails to prevent tumbles.

Finally, there are hybrids - metal frames with wooden structures
or plastic components like crawling tunnels and climbing walls.
These are most often found in public playgrounds, but there are
some available to build in your backyard. They may be based on a
metal frame with a wooden structure or canvas tent, or have a
plastic crawling/climbing tube up to a wooden platform.

Considerations when buying a climbing frame for your back yard
or garden include the age of the children, the amount of use it
will get, aesthetic considerations and safety features. A
well-constructed climbing frame, whatever the material, is one
of the best investments you can make for your family’s
recreation needs.

Help Fido and Fluffy Find Their Way Home!

Posted by admin on April 12, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

Most devoted pet owners never intend to lose their beloved pets.
Unfortunately, accidents happen and all pets need identification
to help reunite them with their families. That includes indoor
cats! Scared or excited pets can slip out the door before you
can stop them.

Check with your city for any licensing or identification
requirements for your pet. Here are your three main choices.
Many pet owners opt to use a combination of them, just in case
one form of ID fails.

__1. LICENSE TAG.

Usually purchased from the city, your pet is assigned a number
which is tracked in a computer database. Tags are attached to
your pet’s collar. If your pet is found, the animal control
officer can check the tag number, pull up your address, and call
you to let you know they have your pet.

Many pet stores also offer an option to print up a simple
address tag — your pet’s name, address, and phone number are
the most commonly displayed information.

The disadvantages of using a tag are: the tag can fall off and
get lost; it might not be readable; your pet may not always be
wearing its collar; your pet may slip out of or lose its collar.

__2. TATTOO.

Tattoos are commonly etched into one of your pet’s ears during
spay/neuter surgery (pets must be under anesthetic for this
procedure). Tattoos are a visible and somewhat permanent method
of identification.

Unlike tags, tattoos are not reliant on your pet wearing its
collar. However tattoos usually fade over time, making them
illegible. They can be retraced … but since pets must be under
anesthetic and there is always a risk with anesthetic, retracing
a tattoo should be done at the same time your pet is undergoing
another procedure anyways.

__3. MICROCHIP.

A microchip is a small, electronic chip (approximately the size
of a grain of rice) that is implanted just under your pet’s
skin. It is administered by a simple injection.

Microchips each have an identification number associated with
them; along with this ID number, your name, address, and phone
number are entered into a computer database. If your pet gets
lost, animal shelters or city pounds equipped with scanners will
be able to scan your pet’s body to quickly locate the ID number
of the microchip along with the corresponding owner information.
Many shelters and pounds these days are equipped to handle
microchips.

Regardless of what form of ID you choose, please be sure to keep
your contact information up-to-date. It will help ensure that
your pet finds his way home — where he belongs.

Analysis of Cat Behavior

Posted by admin on April 6, 2008 in Great Lifestyle Tips

The most important thing to remember in analyzing the behavior of your cat is that your pet is not a human. Cats are not rational beings and their actions are not based on emotion. Changes in his behavior are not stemmed from any repressed anger with you; your cat is not trying to get revenge on you for being away from home too much or bringing a new baby into the house.

Negative changes in cat behavior are typically cause by stress or anxiety for the cat. It is easy to see why pet owners tend to conclude that the cat’s feelings toward them are causing the behavioral differences; it is human nature to correlate two unrelated events. In reality, there is a missing link: your behavior may cause the cat physical anxiety, thus the cat’s behavior alteration is based on physiological changes in his body.

One common complaint among cat owners is that their cat has suddenly chosen a new favorite place to deposit wastes instead of his litter box. This could be a result of a few factors. First, it may be a medical problem. Cats are prone to urinary track infections that make it extremely painful to urinate. Cats then associate the pain of urination with the litter box, so they do not like to visit their designated urination station. If your cat has stopped using the litter box, your first step should be to take him to the vet and have a thorough check-up run on him. Cats also have natural preferences for certain textures and smells, so if you have recently changed the type of cat litter you use, the cat may be showing that he does not care for the new feeling or smell of his litter. In avoiding the litter box, the cat may have become attached to new textures and locations around your household, perhaps the soft living room rug or bedroom closet. The best strategy is not to punish the cat; he will not understand. Rather, have a medical check up, switch litters, and continuously reintroduce the cat to his litter box. Reward him for using it, just like he was a kitten again.

To relieve any anxiety your cat may be feeling, carefully analyze any changes that have occurred in his life as of late. If a new baby or roommate comes into the house, your cat may feel threatened, so be sure to give him extra attention. If you suddenly have to spend more time away from home than normal, consider getting a second cat so that your cat does not spend his days alone. Although the cat is not having emotional reactions, his body feels different due to changes around him.

Be in tune with what may be causing your cat to feel anxious, analyze the situation, and do the loyal owner duty of relieving his stress.
