Exercise The Right Way - Barbell Shrugs

Posted by admin on October 31, 2008 in Fitness Portal

Other articles in this series looked at a number of exercises, mainly from the perspective of developing a comprehensive muscle building program. Sometimes we take things for granted, especially when it comes to performing the basic exercises that constitute the core of most bodybuilders’ training regimes.

It is useful, therefore, to describe in detail the processes involved in actually doing these exercises. This will help beginners to start out using the correct techniques before moving on to potentially more dangerous heavy weights. If it also helps more experienced lifters to redress some of the little faults that have almost imperceptibly crept in over the years, all the better.

In this article we’ll take a close look at Barbell Shrugs.

MUSCLES TARGETED: trapezius (upper), rhomboids

STARTING POSITION

Adopt a shoulder width stance with the back erect and knees slightly bent throughout.

Grasp the bar with an overhand grip and hands slightly wider than shoulder width.

Hold the bar at arm’s length with a slight bend at the elbows.

The bar should now be resting across the upper thighs.

EXERCISE TECHNIQUE

Lift your shoulders towards your ears and briefly hold the contraction.

Slowly lower the bar towards the starting position ensuring a comfortable stretch is achieved.

Repeat this movement until the intended number of repetitions are completed.

Rumors on PS3 Games

Posted by admin on October 30, 2008 in Games + Cheats

Rumors have been spreading around the internet about PS3 Games having copyrights. This means that consumers cannot re-sell the games that they already own, ergo, they cannot buy cheaper second hand games. It’s really no surprise that rumors with this kind of nature spread around quickly. But the fact that it did spread around and that people talked about it, only tells something about the possible reaction of people, in case the issues are true. To even things out however, Sony has denied the rumors about the illegal re-selling of PS3 Games.

Aside from the fact that the retail price of the game console itself has been stirring up consumers who are anxiously waiting for its release, price issues about the PS3 Games itself are also being talked about.

Critiques are expecting that since Japanese released PS2 games have been selling for around $75, they are expecting that PS3 Games would come at a higher price. It would only be natural to expect that this would be the case. Sony has made a lot of efforts to raise the quality of the new product. This is of course, only their natural response to the upcoming competition from Microsoft. However, they would also have to make a lot of consideration as regard the pricing of the games. If PS2 games have been selling for about $75, should consumers expect that PS3 Games would be sold at least around $80-85. In addition to this, high-end games would definitely be a little more over that.

Another rumor surrounding the release of this new gaming console is that hard drives would not be included in some models of the PlayStation 3. This means that people would not be able to play high-end PS3 Games that feature HD quality. This has also been one of the key issues regarding the upcoming release.

High-end PS3 Games require a 60Gb hard drive to be able to function. Estimates have been predicted that the hard drive itself could easily cost around $100. With rumors that Sony would be struggling with the $400 pricing of the game console, an additional $100 dollars to the price could prove to be detrimental. Past game consoles that exceeded the $400 range did not perform as well in the market, compared to those which stayed below this mark. It seems people would not want to spend higher than 400 on the video games. The bigger question is that with the introduction of HDTV these days, would people who are familiar with the difference in viewing they would get from it, pay another $100 just to get better video quality?

Oh well! We could all be certain that rumors about PS3 Games and the console itself would continue to be around until it is actually released. I wonder why people cannot have enough patience to just wait and see how much these things would cost, and whether PS3 Games would be copyright protected. It’s also good though, that people are able to talk about something while they’re not doing anything and are still waiting for the upcoming release.

Advice On Buying Video Games

Posted by admin on in Games + Cheats

Is the local retailer’s game testing system becoming your primary console? Have you resorted to subscribing to game magazines just to play the included demos? Are you having to go on a forced Ready Rice diet because you can not afford to buy the latest games? Now you don’t have to, in this article we will examine ways for consumers to save money when purchasing video games.

Avoid Buying From Offline Retailers

One of the most worst things you can do as a consumer is to buy games, especially if they are not new, from a local retail outlet. Most of the games within these stores are overpriced even after you factor in the discount that you will get from the advertised sale price or the savings through the store’s discount card. If you have too, then its best to buy a game from the pre-owned section. Pre-owned games are generally in good condition and cost 20 % less then their counterparts, just remember to inspect the game box for any missing game manuals and the game disc for scratches.

Search For Online Deals

As a consumer your first choice should be eBay. Generally used games on eBay are much cheaper than the major retailer’s pre-owned selection and occasionally you do find good deals. Instead of bidding on a single title you should instead try to win a lot of 10 to 50 games. Keep the games that you need from the lot and auction off the rest. Lots are generally more cheaper, on a per game bases, and in my experience these sellers do not gouge buyers on shipping costs. Also when using eBay be sure to use Paypal as the payment option. Paypal issues, several times during the year, coupons which can be used when paying for eBay items, these coupons offer an additional saving of 5 - 10% and are usually found in eBay’s monthly newsletters. There are also online sites such as pricegrabber.com and dealrush.com that display weekly deals from all the major video game retailers. An advantage to using these sites is that they are updated daily meaning you can stop having to rely on the Sunday flyers to find deals. Apart from these sites you can also save money by purchasing used games from members on the various gaming forums (such as cheapassgamer.com) that you may participate in. Just be sure that the forum members that you trade with have a high iTrader rating.

Have Patience

Game prices fall dramatically within a span of four months. Therefore, you should consider waiting a couple of months before buying a new game. Apart from saving you money this approach also allows you to get a better idea of how good the game is and if its worth owning.

Rent If Broke

So why should you rent games? Because its cheap and it provides you the ability to test new games. Most of the latest games appear on the renting shelves within the first two weeks of the initial release date, and given that most major retailers charge only $4-$8 for a game rental, this is the perfect opportunity to test, review and hopefully finish the game. Renting works especially well if you just need to play the latest games without caring too much about owning a personal copy. Remember, you can always buy your favorite rented games later on in the year when they cost a fraction of the original price.

Sell Your Games After You Finish Them

As a broke gamer the worst thing you could is start a collection, especially with new releases. Most new games fall dramatically in price within the first few months, so its vital that you sell your new games as soon as possible. Remember, you can always rent games, either when company comes over or at times when you are bored. This method will not only provide you with additional revenue but will also insure that you are able to play the latest releases.

Posted by admin on October 29, 2008 in Games + Cheats

Online games are gaining in popularity exponentially. It is one of the fastest growing segment on the Internet. Though there is no free lunch in life. It seems that free online games are a free lunch. Some of us have a impression that such games are for the teenagers. You will hear many parents talking about the countless hours their children spend playing games online. I wonder why the parents don’t join them? Let me explain.

We are all looking for fun and entertainment. Many times the television offers nothing new or you might have got bored watching television and would like to do something else. You don’t want to go out and meet friends nor are in any mood for a dinner outside. you want to laze around the house and do something entertaining if possible. Online games are the answer for every age group.

Online games have been wrongly assumed to be for young people. All age groups can enjoy them. What if parents join their children in online games? They would surely make them come closer. Why complain about how much the children are playing? Join them in the fun. They would love it. You would love that. And you can also control the types of games they play and the hours spent.

Online games are fun. They increase strategic thinking. They improve our responses. They help sharpen our thinking. The games help in many ways. Try them and you will agree with what I say. You would wonder why you never played them before.

PSP: The New Wave

Posted by admin on October 27, 2008 in Games + Cheats

PSP, no this isn’t some new form of PCP or LSD or new street drug of choice, though it is a huge favorite among teens and college aged kids on the streets. The PSP stands for Play Station Portable. This is the newest hand held gaming system from Sony for their Play Station franchise. This new gaming system is light years evolved ahead of the Nintendo Gameboys that helped to start the whole craze, and PSPs offer far more options than their “ancient” predecessors.

PSPs are gaining strongly in popularity. Many advertisements on television commercials will even mention a movie coming out on PSP as well as DVD. The ability of this consul and portable gaming system to adapt to multi-functional usage is one of the aspects that makes it so appealing. While there were definitely some early detractors to the new PSP model when it was initially introduced (along with a huge number of gaming fans who swore by the Nintendo DS portable system) Sony’s PSP console’s ascent in popularity has been amazing, and remarkably fast, much like the popularity of Apple’s iPod.

With the emergence of the console, PSP games have come into much higher demand. The cheaper alternative to buying games in stores is download them online, and the PSP seems to want to encourage these online sites to make downloading of the games and spreading of the game much easier. There are, in fact, over a dozen web sites set up specifically for downloading games. Most of these sites have a membership fee, ranging from a month to a year. A few of the web sites even have the option of life time memberships for a larger one time fee.

The nice thing for Play Station fans who are looking at a PSP is that the controls have not been radically changed. One thing about Nintendo, for example, was how radically the controls changed from the original Nintendo system to the Super Nintendo system, to the N-64, to the Nintendo Game Cube. Fans of the Sony systems won’t have to worry: whatever small changes are made, they are all still based and designed on the original controller that everyone has become familiar with. The PSPs thus have the familiarity of all the previous Sony Play Station features that make them so popular while also adding new benefits and bonuses to the equation, giving the PSPs a great chance at staying in the popular mainstream.

Video Game Regulations on Content

Posted by admin on October 24, 2008 in Games + Cheats

Should we allow the Government to regulate video games? Should we let the industry self-regulate? Do you as a parent regulate the video game content of your children? Have you considered any of this? Well, recently in an online think tank we did and there are many sides to the issue indeed.

Industry regulation may not be such a hot idea, but in my opinion government regulation is far worse. Not because I dislike government but because they do nothing very well and because they change their minds based on politicians faster than the wind changes directions all based on the latest news polls. And well government has just proven to be too corruptible; that is to say Adam Smith ‘invisible hand’ or Ayn Rand discussions.

Taking responsibility for your kids and their information intake is wise and it is the correct way to handle it, even if you cannot always be there, at least you lay the proper ground rules and foundation. Just think if we could get every parent to do that? Do you regulate the content you children view? Should you? How about your friends? What do they do? Do they regulate their children? Do you kids play with their kids? How much shielding from the world should or can you do? Consider all this in 2006.

How to Play Backgammon

Posted by admin on October 20, 2008 in Games + Cheats

Backgammon has a very long history nevertheless, learning how to play backgammon is simple. It is a game of skill and one that, unfortunately, many younger people today are not all that familiar with. Still, familiarizing oneself with how to play backgammon doesn’t take very long. Thanks to the rise of the Internet, learning how to play backgammon is easier than ever before and the game of backgammon is enjoying a resurgence of popularity. You can play online, download backgammon games from the Internet, and play with other people or against the computer.

Most people are familiar with the games set up’ two players, one backgammon board, and each player gets 15 chips apiece. When learning how to play backgammon, you will find that the object of game is to move the chips from the board into your home board and finally into your winning pile. The first person to successfully clear the board of all their chips wins the game. The backgammon board is divided into four parts. When looking at the board from either one of the player’s sides, the quadrant of the backgammon board closest to you is your home board, moving clockwise, you will pass over the bar and see the other half of the backgammon board, which is referred to as the outer board. Moving clockwise again to the remaining quadrant of the board is your opponent’s home board. You will notice that each quadrant has 6 points. These are the spaces that you move onto. Although the spaces are alternating colors, each chip can move onto any colored points, the color of the chip and the color of the points do not have to correspond.

The game starts with the chips in the proper place. Each player has five pieces in the first point in their home board, the one closest to the bar. They moving clockwise again, each player gets three pieces on their side of the outer board. These are placed in the point not directly next to the line, but one away from it. On the other side of the outer board, on the point furthest away from the center line, each player puts five more pieces. Moving rightwards across the board, each player puts two pieces in the opposite player’s home board nearest to their “out” position.”

Each roll of the dice shows how many points a player is allowed to move their chips. For example, if you roll a five and a four, you can move your chips a grand total of nine points. You can move one chip four spaces and the other chip 5 spaces. You must use both of the rolls if it is legally possible for you to use them. The only caveat is that you cannot move a chip onto a space that is already occupied. If a player rolls doubles, they get double the moves, for example, if you get double 6’s, you can move 4 pieces 6 points instead of two pieces 6 points. If you have a single chip on a space and a chip from your opposing player lands on it, your piece gets sent back to the center bar and from there it has to start the journey from the other side of the board. The first person to get all their chips through the board and into the safe position wins.

Xbox 360 Shortage Coming To An End

Posted by admin on in Games + Cheats

It looks like the Xbox 360 shortage may finally be coming to and end. During his DICE appearance, Peter Moore said, “Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360.”

Even here in Canada the 360 shortage seems to be much better with places like EB Games “almost” caught up to preorders.

“All of our pre-orders taken before charismas have now been honored, and as of right now, we only have 1 or 2 people on our list.” Commented one EB Games employee in Ontario.

Online retailers like Amazon now seem to have Xbox 360 bundles in stock on a somewhat regular basis. Though most 360’s are sold in bundles priced at $899 and up.

EBay auctions have calmed down considerably over the past few weeks. It is expected that within the next few weeks, you might even be able to find a new 360 for less than retail. Before Christaas, it was not uncommon to find Xbox 360’s selling for well over $2,000(USD).

Microsoft is hoping to sell 4.5 to 5-million Xbox 360’s by the end of June. With shortages all but under control, it will be interesting to see if that number can actually be reached.

Free Online Game Selection

Posted by admin on October 19, 2008 in Games + Cheats

Selecting an online game for your child is not always easy. Age group is a big factor in game selection. There are many sites that offer free games. By typing “free online games for [toddlers, teens, preteen]” into your favorite search engine you will find many sites that offer free games. Make sure to replace the brackets [] with your child’s age group. Most free game sites offer a wide selection. Most free game sites display ads to pay for the hosting and game creation.

Games selection by age group:

Toddler: This age group will be looking for colorful games full of sound and motion. For example you could find a game with a fury creature. This is a great way to teach your child how to use a computer and to learn.

Preteen: Children in this age group will have different interests based on age. Younger preteens, 8 or 9, are looking for light strategy with lots of colors and motion. Think of sonic the hedgehog as a good example of a colorful strategy game. Math games are great for this age group. As your preteen gets older they will be looking for more action and more challenging strategy. You will find your preteen playing less at games based on cartoons and more games based on movies. Racing games are good for this age group.

Teen: Teens are generally the targeted audience for game developers. Your teen may look for role playing games offering high degrees of strategy or may be looking to play war games. You will find less teens playing racing games.

A Choose Up Game - One of My Best Games

Posted by admin on October 18, 2008 in Games + Cheats

The teams were picked and the line ups were announced. I was batting third. I could not wait to hit. Hitting to me was like eating for a fat man with a tape worm. I lived for the experience. I knew even before I batted that I would get a hit. I was so young and cocky! After the first two guys on my team made outs, I strolled up to the plate, as confident as Babe Ruth - pointing to center field in the 1934 World Series when he called his famous home run. Digging in and sneering at Donnie, I was determined to smack that pill. First pitch was a high and tight fastball.

I got out of the batter’s box and stared at Donnie. I was thinking fastball for his next offering. I was right. The ball came in so big. I could see the red seams on the ball. Boom! I connected on that real sweet spot on the bat. All batters love that sound. That crack that sounds so solid. Pitchers hang their heads when they hear that noise. It’s like the strike of chalk on a backboard, they hate it. The ball jumped off my bat and sailed over the left and centerfielder’s heads. It was a shot and a half. As I rounded the bases I got a glimpse of Mr. Ginsburg, the high school coach, watching me round the bases. This was Major League stuff.
A few innings later…..

Gazing at Donnie, I thought how much more determined he looked, as I went to bat for the second time. His brow was crimped and his eyes were staring. With a runner on first he was pitching from the stretch. His leg glided toward home his arm raised high, he flung the ball at me. I do not know what kind of pitch he threw. What I do know is that I hit a rocket about 15 feet over the third baseman’s head down the left field line. As the ball rolled and rolled I scampered around the bases as if I was being chased by some animal. I saw home plate in my head as I ran. And as I rounded second base I again saw Coach Ginsburg now watching the outfielders race after the ball. I hit third base with authority and sped home for my second round tripper in two at bats. My teammates congratulated me. The stands were buzzing again. I remember my friends jumping up and down with big smiles on their faces.

I felt wonderful. Two times to bat. Two home runs, against our high school star pitcher. This game was a fantasy baseball dream come true. I was Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Willie Mays all rolled in to one that day.

Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think would enjoy reading about baseball.
