Green Cars - Environmental Cars

Air pollution is one of the biggest culprits accounting for most respiratory illnesses. It is also a big contributor to the environmental problems of global warming, ozone depletion, smog, acid rain, crop damage, among others. We cause air pollution directly through our use of electricity, transportation and burning of fossil fuels.

Transportation is a necessary activity for us, especially for those who go to work and school. Some of us use the public transportation system, while a number use their own vehicles. Cars burn fossil fuels which are responsible for about 25% of carbon dioxide emissions. Over all, transportation contributes 60 to 90% of urban air pollution. Carbon dioxide emitted by vehicles makes up half of the amount that contributes to global warming.

In recent years, car makers have tried to develop environmentally-friendly cars. Eventually, they came out with the idea of the green car. A green car is able to reduce emission of air pollutants like carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrous oxides or volatile organic compounds known as smog. These cars use alternative sources to help power the vehicle. Its concept involves the use of fuels that burn more cleanly.

Green cars that use propane and compressed natural gas are called Alternate Fuel Vehicles, or AFVs. There are also AFVs that utilize renewable fuels like biodiesel and ethanol. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, provide convenience and efficiency by merging its electric and combustion drives. Pure Electric Vehicles, or PEVs, use rechargeable batteries or fuel cells to generate power.

Although green cars are quite expensive, its helping to protect the environment is more than worth it for future generations. Green cars make for a better life and the world a healthier and safer place.
