Save money with central heating breakdown cover

The guys over at NullPlay have come up with a great trick to get your boiler repaired on the cheap, and while they might think it’s “slightly dodgy” we have no compunctions at all in recommending it…anything the consumer can do to get one up on companies who are, at the end of the day, trying to take as much cash as possible from you is all right by us!

The basic idea is that if you’re unlucky enough to have a problem with your boiler or central heating system you get a quote from one or more plumbers for the job and, if the estimates are creeping in to the £100+ region you just sign up for heating breakdown insurance with one of the many providers such as Homeserve or British Gas Homecare. Most of these offer cheap or free parts and labour on repairs, and, while they’ll probably have a condition in their contract that allows them to pull out of the deal if your boiler is on it’s last legs, minor repairs may well get carried out for free. It’s essentially an insurance type business model where people tend to stick with their original choice, so they know it may be worth a few parts and hours to keep your business longer term!
